Ligéey is Amadou Diagne's latest album that marks him out as a singer and musician of great note. Amadou assembled a great team, headed by producer Mark Smulian, and musicians including Beth Porter, Gani Tamir, and Phil Dawson. The music of Ligéey is a fusion of many influences. It's rooted in Amadou's Senegalese background and has been well spiced by his collaborations with luminaries from the UK, Europe and the Middle East. This has resulted in a very contemporary record with lots of soul. Ligéey has the ability to touch everybody. On one level it is a very simple record with no clutter and a very discerning amount of colour and shade. Second and third listens reveal much more depth. This is a very well produced record. The overriding theme is Ligéey, a Wolof word meaning 'work' and working together to make the world a better place for the individual, family and wider family. Ligéey about everyone taking responsibility and taking care of each other. The record takes people on a journey to unfamiliar places of beauty and truth and is full of emotion, sealed with one of Amadou's big famous smiles.
